Is this just a wipe-down?
No. Cigarette residue sits in painted surfaces. A wall can look clean and still hold smell. Brown residue can come back after a surface looks wiped clean.
Can I just paint over the smoke?
Painting over smoke usually traps the smell. Tell us if you already painted over it — that changes the job. Restore the existing finish first when that’s practical. A full repaint is not the default.
How long until the smell is gone?
